Board Approves Master Plan
The Prince George County Board of Supervisors approved a Master Plan, created by the Timmons Group, for the 1200 acres of County owned and optioned property known as Southpoint Business Park (SBP), adjacent to I-295.The Plan addresses future industrial access roads, utility upgrades and site preparation with a phased development approach. Although SBP is zoned M-1, one of the Plan’s highlights features an upscale office mixed-use development at the Bull Hill Road entrance. Targeted industries for SBP now encompass Distribution, Manufacturing and the Service Industry…specifically those that support Fort Lee and the expanding regional medical facilities.
PG becomes a PART
Prince George partnered with Chesterfield, Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie, Hopewell and Petersburg to create a regional tourism group, the Petersburg Area Regional Tourism Corporation. The group hopes to promote its regional tourism assets as one consolidated marketing initiative. “A regional tourism corporation simply makes sense for this area,” Martha Burton, Assistant to the Executive Director of the Crater Planning District Commission (CPDC) said. “With the six localities we have a natural marketing area with unique resources and advantages.”
Participating in Virginia Tourism’s Godspeed Sail has been PART’s first marketing initiative. Prince George sent a volunteer to each of the six port cities this Summer. Following the Sail, PART will begin work on a new web site, regional marketing strategy, organizational development and more.
